The Young Artists Competition has been cancelled for 2008. Plans are being made to reschedule the competition in 2009 or 2010. More information will be made available on this web site in the future. The competition features 60 singers competing in the young (ages 17-19), collegiate, (ages 20-23) and emerging (ages 24-30) artist categories. Vocalists are critiqued by two different panels of three judges during two rounds of competition throughout the day. Judges represent singers, accompanists, coaches, and conductors from throughout the opera genre.
Finalists compete head-to-head at a 7 p.m. concert that same evening at Augustana's Wallenberg Hall. Finalists are determined by the top four highest scoring singers from each category. During the final round, all nine judges from that day's competition weigh in to determine the winners. The finalists compete for monetary prizes to support their continued musical studies as well as consideration for roles in future performances by Opera Quad Cities.
